The plan was to pack up the kids and head to St. Louis this weekend to visit Dan’s family. Everyone was healthy… finally.
Or so we thought.
Friday morning, around 2 a.m., Sam crawled into bed with us. That wasn’t very unusual, but the fact that he tossed and turned rather than falling right back to sleep was. At one point, he put his feet on me and I about fell out of bed in my attempt to get away from him. No, they weren’t cold. They were BURNING hot! I reached over and felt his forehead. Sure enough, it was hot, too.
I tumbled out of bed, grabbed my AWESOME temporal thermometer (if you don’t have one, you’ve got to get one) and the Motrin. His fever was 102.3°. Bummer. No Grandma’s for him, at least.
Dan was more afraid of telling someone they couldn’t go than he was of taking ALL of the other three by himself, so that’s what he did. Sam and I bid them adieu Friday afternoon.
Meanwhile, we’ve just been hanging out. Of course, Sam hasn’t had a fever since Friday morning. And, he feels fine. As a matter of fact, he’s trying to make up for the quiet by talking non stop. It isn’t really working. It’s still waaaaaaayyyyyyy too quiet around here.
We’re also kind of bored. The house is clean. We made some brownies. We tried to shop for some maternity clothes (hopeless). With just one kid, there have been no disasters to avert. No colossal spills to clean up. No wrestling matches to break up.
Sam and I have enjoyed our time alone together, but I think we’re both thankful the rest of the crew will be home early tomorrow!
