The Park

I know. A trip to the park with the kids is pretty mundane. No real excitement there, right? Same old stuff - climbing, swinging, playing.

Except that this park had it all.

First of all, it was a perfect day. Perfect. No humidity. None. Clear skies. Breeze. Just gorgeous. Even my California sister would have been jealous.

Then there was the park. Lots of grassy room to run. A beautiful path all the way around a huge duck pond. A play ground with slides, climbing wall and swings.

In addition, the park is in the flight path of O’Hara. So, about every minute or so, a plane flew overhead. Not just way up in the sky, either. Nice and close - close enough to read the airline name. The kids LOVED it.

And, to top it off, one of the side streets was being repaved. Trucks, asphalt machines, bulldozers… it was a kids’ dream come true! Half the time they just stood there and watched the work being done.

I know the day will come when I will point out some big piece of machinery, a plane or a train and the kids - uninterested - will not even bother to look. But until then, I relish in their fascination of what most of us barely even notice.
