The Park

July 23rd, 2009 · No Comments · Family, Parenting

This week has been a lazy week, as there have been no scheduled activities for the kids.  This is not a good thing, as it makes me lazy, too.  We all get out of bed late, eat breakfast late, stay in our jammies waaaayyyy too long and watch too much TV.

This morning I was determined to do SOMEthing.

So off to the park we went!  (After getting dressed, finding shoes, grabbing dump trucks, getting water, chasing the dog down after she was let out yet again…)

Thankfully, the park is right down the street from us, so it’s a fairly quick walk (depending on dawdling children).

As soon as we made it there, Jack settled into the sand box while the other three ran around the playground collecting new friends.  Eventually, though, they all migrated to the sand box and got to work on building… things.  I sat on a bench in the shade and relaxed.

For about 30 seconds.

Sam left the sandbox and started running around the playground… on his tippy toes.  Which told me something.  Seconds later he confirmed it for me and announced (quite loudly) his need to go poop.

*Sigh*

I gathered my other children, who were shocked and dismayed at having to leave, (but were pacified when I told them we’d return) and we started the trek home.  As soon as we got home, I put Sam on the potty to do his thing.  He announced he no longer needed to.  I announced that we weren’t going back to the park until he did.  The other kids freaked and started begging him to go poop.  Like THAT’s gonna help.

I sent Sam upstairs for a little privacy and sat down to wait it out.  30 seconds later he hollered down the stairs that he had pooped – on the potty – and proceeded to describe it.  In detail.  (Why children feel the need to do this, I have no idea).

We got Sam dressed (again), gave him a Matchbox car as a reward for all his hard work, gathered all our crap again and headed back over to the park, where we enjoyed the nice weather until lunchtime.

I’m thinking that tomorrow we’ll sleep late, stay in our jammies and watch TV all day.
