It pains me to do this. Really. I’m sure, though, that it pains Kristina more. (Please don’t hate me!) However, I can’t help myself. I have my computer screen saver set on a slide show of all the pictures stored on my computer. Last time some of these came up, I decided I’d write an anniversary post in honor of Maria’s Easter Disaster.
So. This is it.
Two years ago on Easter Sunday morning, I was called out of mass by my dear friend (yes, she’s still my friend) Kristina. Maria had a mishap. She was running across the church nursery room and tripped. When she fell, her face smacked the metal frame of a daybed.
To this day I cringe when I think about it. I’m sure the pain I imagine is much worse than what she actually felt. Or maybe not. Poor Kristina! She obviously had nothing to do with it and was at no fault in the least. She simply happened to have drawn the short straw and was helping out that day. She saw it all happen, but wasn’t quite close enough to be able to prevent the impending outcome. I don’t think there are many in the world that can allow themselves to be consumed with guilt quite like she can, so it makes her an easy target for friends hateful people like me. I’ve gotten a lot of mileage out of teasing her.
I have to confess that the incident was really my fault. Maria was wearing some adorable new sandals we bought. In a size too big. Cute but ill-fitting sandals + carpet + running = DISASTER.
I’m very thankful Kristina was there. Maria adores her and was probably just as happy to have Kristina consoling her as me. It’s also nice that Kristina’s father-in-law is a plastic surgeon. You know. Just in case.

I never heard about this… that picture is absolutly horrify. I mean my stomach is literally turning in knots right now. But it’s like driving by a bad wreck, you can’t help but take one more look.

OMG, that sure is a whopper! Those are the kind of bruises that end up with a visit from Social Services.
What a tough girl for such a sweetie!
