Snips and Snails and Puppy dog Tails…

Monday was the big day.  December 1.  The day we found out whether we were going to be having a boy or a girl, come April.

For us, this was pretty exciting.  Despite already having four children, we had always waited for the big surprise to be announced in the delivery room.  This time, though, it seemed we couldn’t do that.  There was NO WAY anyone could stand to wait until April.

So, at 3:15 p.m. on Monday, we all filed into the ultrasound room to get a glimpse of our new baby.  Unfortunately for the kids, there was some work to be done by the tech before we could get down to the nitty gritty.  Things to measure, things to look at (besides that). A million of Jack’s questions to be answered.

Finally… FINALLY!!!  The tech asked the kids, “Are you all ready to find out what you’re having?”

The kids gave a resounding “YES!”  (I’m pretty sure the people working in the next office building over could hear their response.)

“It’s a… boy!” the tech announced.

Maria promptly burst into tears.

Sam cheered.

Luke and Jack stood in stunned silence (for about 5 seconds) while it dawned on them that their guesses had been wrong. (How could it possibly be so?)

With the excitement basically over, Dan ushered the kids out and down the hall, Maria crying all the way.  The tech (who about started crying, too, for Maria’s sake) continued with her exam of our newest boy.  While she was working, the doctor popped in, took one glance at the screen and said, “That’s definitely a boy!” and then, “Ohhhhh…  Is that why your daughter was crying?”

Hahaha.  My poor Maria!  She sooooooo wanted a sister.  And, having the two best EVER myself, I wanted her to have a sister.  But, it’s not to be.

Thankfully, she’s pretty much over it, and is just happy to have a baby coming to take care of.  (The ice cream Dan provided on the way home probably helped a little).

I’m sure over the years she will appreciate more and more getting to be the only girl in the family and all the privileges that will come with it.

By the way, I hate to expose my baby like this, but for those that asked, here is proof of boy-ness.  (You’re looking bottom-up.)  When Dan asked the tech how sure she was on a scale of 1 to 10, she said she was a definite 10.
