Ripening

I don’t know if she gets it from her dad, her gran or her great-grandmother. She certainly doesn’t get it from me.

It’s the art of “ripening.” Maria, who is the least shy little girl you’ll ever meet, brings out what shyness she has when putting on a new outfit. She wants to be notices, but not too much. Once she gets past the first wearing, though, she’ll often wear whatever it is constantly. Like the dress Gran bought her for her birthday (shown with new running shoes here.)

Our WONDERFUL friend Troy (girl, people) bought Maria a darling outfit for her birthday. Bright pink capris, a summer blouse with embroidery along the bottom and a cardigan to match (so as not to get too cold in church). It is SO CUTE! But, I thought Maria would never wear it. So, as I often have to do with her, I quit mentioning the darling outfit and let it “ripen” for Maria.

Sure enough, she broke it out yesterday for mass and wore it. Finally.

And, it’s adorable on her.

I just don’t understand the need to let it ripen. All those days it could have been worn already! Oh, well. I guess some of us like to let things ripen and some want to just pick it off the vine.

Was mass in English this week?
Cute outfit. G’mom would be proud–it’s girlier than anything any of us voluntarily wore. :-)

Sometimes you just have to wait for the right moment to break out an ensemble! I totally understand.
