Perfect

February 12th, 2009 · 2 Comments · Parenting

The last few days here in Chicagoland have been unseasonably warm. Seriously warm. On Tuesday it hit 63 degrees! No jackets necessary! No gloves! No hats!

While the kids bounced around the kitchen in various stages of dress and nutrition, I glanced out the window to see virtually no snow. “Wow!” I told the kids. “Look – all the snow is gone!”
Jack came over to the sliding glass doors, leaned his forehead against the glass and sighed.

“Perfect mud!” He exclaimed.

Yeah. Perfect.

Perfect, it turns out, for dancing in with your siblings in rain boots (now known as mud boots).

Perfect for scooping onto a sled, hauling up onto the deck and dumping out. Then spreading EVERYWHERE with the aid of a Tonka bulldozer.

Perfect for the dog to chase squirrels in, just before running into the house with muddy paws, her paw prints mingling with the 856 boot prints.

I’m seriously surprised that the shower drain hasn’t clogged.  And that the washing machine hasn’t jammed.  And that my my head hasn’t exploded.  Yet.

Do you remember the first time Jack got almost naked and went to play in the mud while I was babysitting. You hadn’t warned me about it prior and so I was feeling SOOOOOOOOOO bad about it (so bad I let him stay..haha. Actually I just figured he’s already completely covered in mud, might as well let him enjoy.) I can still remember my HUGE sign of relief when you told me not to worry about it, mud was his thing. I miss those kids!

I do remember! Hahaha. I’m surprised you ever came back. The kids (and I!) miss you, too.
