Old

Yesterday Jack and I sat together in the dining room and worked on his homework. One of the things he had to do was draw a picture of the word given. The word in this case was “man”. This is his drawing:

“Why is he frowning?” I asked Jack.

“Because he’s really, really old and no one is helping him,” he replied.

“Is that a cane?” I asked of the apparatus the old man was holding.

“Yes,” he said as he added the extra “feet” to it for better stability. “He needs it because he’s old and it’s hard for him to walk. He’s really old. Like… ummmmmm… ummmmmm… 38 years old! That’s really old, isn’t it? That’s way past 6!”

Yeah. So. I guess I’m on the cusp of being really old. Please, someone get me a walker for my next birthday. Apparently I’m going to need it.

Luke’s been calling me a really old man for days now. He’s mad at me and that is his way of punishing me.

I’ll make you feel better: At preschool they did “projects” with the kids and asked them all of these questions. For the sentence “My mommy is ___ years old.” My LOVELY son said “sixty two.”

I thought this was my quarter-life crisis. Apparently it is actually mid-life for me. Thanks, Jack! :-)
