Movie Day

November 5th, 2009 · 2 Comments · Family, Parenting

Over the weekend I successfully bribed the kids into cleaning the basement.  I gathered them together and told them all that if they all did a top-notch job of cleaning the basement then we would go and get the final Star Wars movie:  Revenge of the Sith.

Usually, bribes don’t tend to work around here.  I figured they might put in a little effort before they all started to kill each other.  At best, I thought it’d take most of the day and a lot of “help” from me.

Happily, I was wrong.  They cleaned it – perfectly!  Jack even vacuumed when they were finished.  And, all before noon!

Since we’re probably the last people on earth to see it, I’m not too worried about spoiling anything for you by mentioning a scene here.  If I’m wrong and YOU are the last person on earth, then stop reading now.  You can always come back after you’ve seen it.

In between baking batches of chocolate chip pumpkin muffins, I joined the kids in watching the movie.  The end, as you know, is quite tragic.  Anniken falls into the lava and almost burns to death.  As Obi-Wan stands nearby watching Anniken melt, Maria announced:  “Back then, they didn’t know how to stop, drop and roll.  They hadn’t learned about it yet.”

I guess if I was a better mother I would have stopped the movie and explained a few things.  But I just let it go.
