…and, heaven help me, they’re all under the age of 7

My mother-in-law loves me. Really. I know she does. (You do, don’t you, Pat?)

However, how can anyone who really loves me request that I do a photo session of my children? Why not ask me to shove splinters under my fingernails instead?

I guess I should have downed a glass or two of Mommy Juice first, said a prayer or thrown salt over my shoulder. Not that any of those would have made it better. Well, the Mommy Juice, maybe. But I do have an Uppercase Living party tonight that I have to be sober for.

Let’s back up a bit.

My mother-in-law called yesterday and asked if I could take some photos of the kids wearing some of the clothes she sent at Christmas. She sent similar clothes to the other grandkids and was hoping for pictures of all of them to put in her new digital photo frame.

“Sure!” I told her. “No problem,” I said, thinking, “Oh, sh*t. Pictures of the kids…”

Not one to prolong pain, after picking up Jack from kindergarten today I announced that as soon as we arrived home they would be changing their clothes so we could take some pictures for Grandma. Amazingly, there was no protesting. (Although this was probably due to all the candy they were shoving in after Jack opened his Valentine loot bag.)

We got home and Jack changed just as he was asked. I got the boys changed fairly easily. Rebel Maria insisted on wearing “Jesus’ birthday dress” rather than the jumper Grandma sent her. (Two out of three isn’t too bad, is it? [Sam didn't have a shirt from Christmas.]) I made an executive decision and figured that a picture without the jumper and without tears was better than one with the jumper and with tears.

So we began…

And it went as usual.

You can check out the Flickr photos by clicking the link on the right if you want to see the collection of photos I actually kept. The one you see here is the very best of the lot.

Sorry, Grandma.

Maybe I will go for that glass of Mommy Juice afterall. The party’s not for another hour or so…

The photos look GREAT! You can’t have perfect sit still look at me and smile pics ALL the time. That is just not what kids do…well at least not mine. I think you did an awesome job considering you had 4 youngins to photograph.

At least you got them all in one frame.
