I Will Survive

Staying true to his Gloria Gaynor ringtone, my dad (and mom) survived the visit with us.

I talked to my mom from the airport in Austin a little while ago and I told her I thought the weekend went really fast. “Well, I’m glad you thought so,” was her reply. Hmmmm. Does that mean she didn’t think it went fast? Really? How could 5 nights and 6 days not just fly by when you’re visiting the home of the crazies?

I usually recommend battle gear and earplugs when people come to visit, but I forgot to send the memo this time. Oops.

We did make up for it by drinking a lot. (Dan and I more than them, unfortunately for them.) It may have helped ease the pain a little.

We did some really fun things while my parents were here. We got to watch Maria not participate in her school program, for instance. (As Maddog commented afterward, “She was like the Kamikaze pilot who made 10 passes. Eager but not committed.”) She spent most of the time just kind of wiggling around and then being repeatedly guided back to her strip of tape on the floor.

Gran and Maddog were also forced into watching enjoyed a morning t-ball game. We arrived late (so as not to torture ourselves any longer than necessary) and missed Jack’s one really good hit. Luckily, though, we arrived in plenty of time to see him play in the outfield - until something in the grass caught his eye, and then he decided it was time to wander off in search of a bathroom. During the middle of the game. (Who needs left field anyway?)

Luke spent the weekend flipping his Jekel and Hyde switch, flipping between being mad at everyone and loving them. Little brother Sam chose to be somewhat demanding. (This seems to be a recurring trait in this family.) The boy desperately needs to learn to communicate better. Watch out when you can’t interpret his grunts and cries and mistakenly give him the wrong thing! Sheesh.

After several days of chaos, my mom and I decided we needed a little pampering and went for a pedicure with Troy and her mother-in-law. Ahhhhhh. That was nice. A highlight of the weekend, I think. And look! Cute, eh?

I completely blew my diet while my parents were here. I can only blame myself, but really, it’s way more fun to drink than not. And Chinese food and pizza are just slightly more tempting than lettuce and lunch meat, right? And then there was the chocolate cake…

So… it’s back to Phase I of the SBD for me — tomorrow next week (after we visit Dan’s parents and eat Joey’s birthday cake.)

Thanks, Mom and Dad, for the visit. The extra pounds, lighter wallet and insanity were worth it, dontcha think? We had wonderful time, anyway. Enjoy in the peace and quiet… until you see us again.

I take it that was the French production. I see boys in berets. No wonder she wasn’t enthusiastic about it. The teacher ruined the costume for her.

I’d swear my Luke lived with you some of the time if I didn’t know he was here. They are two peas in a pod. Nice toes!
