Househunting Sucks

I think we’ve seen 40+ houses over the last three days. More to come. The Little Boys are really handling things pretty well, but it isn’t fun for any of us. Finally this morning they got a break and went swimming with Dan for a while. In a bit we’re heading out to look at more homes.

Luke has come to the point where he “hates” every house. Thankfully most homeowners aren’t around to hear his comments. We have seen a few “cool” homes – mostly ones with bigger yards and finished basements.

Today we’ll be heading out to Plainfield where the homes are grand but the commute is long. Not ideal, in my opinion. I’d rather have more husband than more square footage.

We have decided, at the suggestion of a future co-worker, to check out the possibilities closer to the city. I’m afraid we’ll be living in someone’s garage with our price range, but we’ll see. An agent I spoke with this morning gave me some hope.

The most frustrating thing is not having an area chosen yet. With no area picked out, I can’t do anything about school. And, school starts here on August 20th – right around the corner. If we choose Naperville, there is a wonderful, small, parish school I found. The principal spent an hour with me yesterday and I think it’s a place my children would love. (All depending on finances, of course). But, if we go south or north, who knows what I’ll find.

I wonder who the person was that decided 10 days in a city as big as Chicago was enough time to find a house. I mean, we’re going to be here for the foreseeable future… possibly the rest of Dan’s career. And we’re supposed to choose an area, find a house and school in 10 days? Yes, I know we could rent for a while, but moving AGAIN just isn’t an option for us. Plus, the cost would be on us. No can do.

Well… I’m off to buy a lottery ticket. Maybe that’ll help. I feel like everything is a gamble right now anyway, I might as well get in on it.

THERAPY. That's the reason for the blog. I am a SAHM with five little ones (hence the blog name). I love it...usually right up until about 5:30 in the afternoon, when all of my children turn into trolls.

Amanda’s friend here. My Aunt and Unlce live in Algonquin and have a wonderful community as I have visited many times. My cousins used to live in Bartlett and they loved it there. If you would like I would be happy to connect you to my Aunt and Uncle to get a feel for the communities you are looking at more they have lived in this area for over 10 years. Let me know happy to help in any way I can . They also have 2 getting to be sitter aged girls.

Naperville was actually just featured on the Today show this week as one of the top 5-10 places to live. Good luck on the hunt!

I was just going to get on here and say what Steph did. We just got our Money magazine in the mail and Naperville was a top 10 small city to live in . . . apparently their library is one of the tops in the nation.
