Getting It Done

June 8th, 2009 · 7 Comments · Home, Parenting

I know I’ve been a little absent, but it’s for a very good reason!

We spent the weekend getting things done.  A LOT of things.

The first item on the list was finishing the second window box.  I finished painting and assembled it and then Dan helped me mount it to the house.  Yipee!  Only three more to go, all on the second story.

Flower Box #2

Next, we switched out Maria’s ceiling fan for a fancy new chandalier.  I found it at Ikea, so you know it was a steal.  She LOVES it.  As you can see, we also added a fancy medallion-like thingy to surround the top.  Not only did it add a little flair, but it also covered a nasty paint mismatch.  (I know her room isn’t all matchy-matchy and professionally decorated, by the way.  It might even be a bit… gaudy?  But she likes it, and heck, she’s five, right?)

We then took Maria’s fan and replaced ours with it, as ours made a lot of annoying clanky sounds.

Dan, Luke and Sam went off at some point to buy some lawnmower parts so Dan could fix the mower and get the yard done.  Mission accomplished.

I worked on my back deck project some, too.  I bought, cut, and installed some poles around the deck railing from which I plan to hang string lights.  (More on that project as it develops… I can’t wait!)

Finally, my new shutters arrived today!!!  Whoohooo!  I am REALLY excited about these, as I think they’re going to be a drastic improvement to the front of our house.  Soon after the UPS man pulled away, I got to work pulling all the old shutters off the house and preparing for the new ones.  Once nap time was over, we all headed to the hardware store to buy a drill bit needed to hang the new shutters.  Somehow we left the store with a lot more than one drill bit, but heck — we NEEDED the Topsy Turvey, right?  And three ice cream sandwiches.  And an orange flavored push pop…

Stepping around the globs of ice cream left on the porch, I got the things I needed and set about hanging my first set of shutters.

Success!!!!!

I like the color…it works. Obviously I am interested to see if they fit between the two windows upstairs.
