Fun with Rhymes

My sweet and very thoughtful sister, Caroline, recently sent a box of goodies to us.  A few books for me, a couple of maternity (ugh) tops – which are VERY cute, and a couple of books for the kids.

One of the books is Froggy’s Halloween by Jonathan London.

Have you read this?  Do you have small kids?  GET IT!!!  Go get it right now.

Because misery loves company.

The favored line in the book is this:

Trick or treat!
Smell my feet!
Give me something good to eat!

If you don’t
I don’t care,
I’ll pull down your underwear!

My dear sister, teacher for many years of small children and a mother herself, clearly never had a classroom full of children like mine.

Alllllll the way to school this morning (and it’s only a 2 second trip in the car) this is what I heard, over and over again:

Trick or treat!
Smell my feet!
Give me something good to eat!

If you don’t
I don’t care,
I’ll pull down your underwear! (cue in hysterical laughter)

My children think this is absolutely hilarious (and I can’t completely disagree) but, they’re threatening to say this at every door on Halloween night!

Thank goodness Dan takes them trick or treating.  I always stay home and hand out the candy.

Ah, yes, we’ve had that book for years. Any every year at this time the chant begins… Claire is nine and still thinks it’s hilarious so you’d better get prepared to bear it for years to come! :)

Lucie loves that book, too, as did all my students over the years…probably because of the rhyme (nothing beats talking about underwear or the lack thereof!) I didn’t mean to sabotage you…:-)

I must be crazy, but I think I’ll have to get it for Lucas. He’s just starting to really enjoy books and this definitely seems like one he’d love. …like I said… I must be crazy.
