From Trauma to Drama

Maria has been pestering us to let her have her ears pierced.  We’ve talked about it a lot and threw around some ideas:  Maybe for her 6th birthday.  Or, maybe for Uncle Jeff’s wedding.

Well, when we showed up at Grandma’s on Saturday afternoon, Uncle Mike, Aunt Kim, Paige, Kristen and Matt were there.  The subject came up again and with a houseful of women encouraging a positive answer, Dan caved and agreed to let Maria have it done.  We decided to make it a girl thing, so on Saturday afternoon Aunt Anne, Maria and I headed to the mall and met up with Aunt Kim and Paige.

During all the discussions we’ve had, I told Maria it would hurt, but just for a second and she said she could handle that.  She was sure.  On Sunday, after the trauma of the night before, I told her “compared to that, you probably won’t even notice.”  I guess I understated it just a bit.

Thank goodness they did them at the same time, or I’d have a daughter with just one earring!

Of course, she’s thrilled now and loves to preen for anyone that asks.

Too bad everyone at school is going to be too busy noticing her forehead injury to see the earrings.

I’ll be on the lookout for some Fany-Nancy-like earrings. This is what rocks about being a girl–we can survive injury better than the boys and still look fabulous!
