Sunday started the week with my first-ever 8K run. I had barely started to run way-back-when, and ran just a few local 5Ks, when I became pregnant with Jack. Five kids and almost 10 years later, I’m back at it. An experienced runner friend set me up (along with a couple of other newbies) with a training schedule so that we could prepare ourselves for the Shamrock Shuffle race in downtown Chicago. The WORLD’S largest 8K had 40,000 runners lined up this year. (Why start small, right?)
I was nervous about the crowd, the weather, making it across the finish line, making it across the finish line alive, the crowd, humiliating myself, the crowd…
But, it was great! It took more than 30 minutes for our group to even reach the starting line after the race began, but once I was running, I didn’t stop. And, I even did pretty well, finishing in 50:58.

Exhausted after all the excitement, he fell asleep immediately tonight… just like he did a year ago:
