Crack For My Kids

And for me.  Today’s weather, that is.

I’m sure winter here is not over yet, but it’s nice to have some breaks.  Sam, Cheerio and I got a long walk in this morning.  Almost an hour!  What a joy it was, to be OUTSIDE and not freezing our asses off.

After preschool and kindergarten, Maria and Luke spent just about the entire early afternoon out in the backyard.  Without jackets!  With a pilfered soda! (See pic below.)

Later, when we picked Jack up from school, I asked the kids if they wanted to go to the new park on the way home.  I’m pretty sure they said yes… I AM sure I’m deaf now.

It could not have been a more enjoyable afternoon.  There were just a couple of kids on the playground when we arrived, but within a few minutes there were probably 2 dozen.  They were all within a few years in age of each other.  And, they were all kids that go to the school where we’ll be next year.

AND, THE MOMS WERE AWESOME!

Most of the time, I am confident that we are making the right decision in switching the kids next year.  I love our parish, it’s close enough to walk and it’s a good school.  Occasionally, though, I have some doubts.  The big one being that this will be Jack’s fourth school in as many years.dsc_0039

But after my experience at the park this afternoon, I absolutely can’t wait!  One woman walked up to me and introduced herself and her kids.  Then she turned around and introduced me to three other ladies. We stood there, talking and laughing while our kids played, as if we’d been a group for the last 5 years.  Their kids will be in my kids’ classes.  We all live within in a few blocks of each other.  One of the ladies even offered to get me in at their table for the upcoming parish fashion show.  It was really great.  I love it here, but I tend to lament I don’t have any friends.  I think now, though, I may have found some!

It is good to be able to look forward to next year…good people can be as contageous as bad ones.

You should check out those same moms on a cold and miserable day too.
