Summer Break

June 5th, 2009 · 3 Comments · Family, Food, Parenting, School

Jack put on dress clothes instead of his uniform this morning, informing me that that is what his teacher told him to wear.  There had been no note from school, but with it being the last day, I figured it didn’t matter much anyway. As I dropped him off, he told me to pick him [...]

She’s a First Grader

May 28th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Dads, Family, Food, Milestones, Parenting, Performances, School

Maria graduated from kindergarten today. In the fall, during the first open house/teacher conference, Maria’s teacher told me, “I’d take a hundred Maria’s.” Within a few weeks of that, Maria had been “red-carded” several times and started a behavior chart to help keep her in line.  Thankfully, it worked and she pretty much sailed through [...]

Graduating

May 20th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Boy Scouts, Celebrations, Milestones, Parenting, School

We have a lot going on as the school year winds down. Jack has graduated in Boy Scouts from being a Bobcat to being a Tiger Cub. We missed the ceremony due to a conflict, but he has received all his official pins and badges. (Meaning more sewing for me… unless Katey wants to come [...]

February 20th, 2009 · 6 Comments · Dads, Food, Moving, Parenting, Rougher days, School

Yesterday morning I had a doctor’s appointment.  Thankfully, Bert* gets to use sick time to cover the kids for me when this happens.  My appointment was early, so Bert took the kids to school so I could get a shower in beforehand. Bert has taken the kids to school before, so (despite my control-freak nature) [...]

Fear

January 14th, 2009 · 7 Comments · Adventures, Family, Rougher days, School

I think I’m still a little paralyzed with it. Jack was no where to be found when I went to pick him up at school today.  No where. I pulled to the front of the school in the same place I do every day, but he wasn’t there.  I looked around.  I had the other [...]

Snow Day!

December 19th, 2008 · 2 Comments · Parenting, School, Weather

I was beginning to wonder if Chicago had snow days.  It turns out we do!  With several inches of ice over night and continued snow expected throughout the morning, the call from the school came early this morning.  Christmas break has begun! I was a teeny bit sad for Maria, as she was supposed to [...]

Homework

November 5th, 2008 · 12 Comments · School

I always figured that one of these days the kids would be learning things at school that I’d never even heard of.  I mean, heck, Jack is already learning algebra and he’s only in the first grade.  (They call it algebra, anyway). But, imagine my surprise when Jack sat down to do his homework last [...]

Singin’ in the

Sun! It’s hasn’t rained here for the last day or two, but it does seem to rain quite a bit more here than in Tennessee.  So, I’ve been on the hunt for some rain jackets and boots. Aunt Caroline to the rescue!  She found these adorable jackets and boots and promptly mailed them to us.  [...]

Big Bad Luke

September 2nd, 2008 · 3 Comments · Family, School

Today was Lukie’s first real day of preschool!  Last week, he informed me that he was to little to go to school.  “Look at me.  I’m little.  I can’t go to school,” he told me. However, after meeting his teachers last week during orientation, he couldn’t wait to start school.  This morning he woke up, [...]

Finally…

August 29th, 2008 · 1 Comment · Parenting, School

…a post where I’m not bitching about something. Not that I couldn’t, but I think it’s time for a change of pace. The plumber came today and all will be fixed. We have a home warranty, so we don’t have to worry about the cost. Whoohoooo! My dear friend Troy‘s comment on my last post [...]
