Happy Sugar-Free Valentine’s Day

February 16th, 2010 · 3 Comments · Baby, Family, Food

In the middle of helping out at Sam’s preschool Valentine’s party last week, my iPhone notified me that I had received a voicemail from the nurse at my OB’s office.  Not good.  I had taken the 3-hour glucose test on the previous Friday.  They said they’d call if there was a problem.
Sure enough, I flunked [...]

The Great Snake Project

February 2nd, 2010 · 1 Comment · Family, Parenting, School

Okay… I promised pictures, so here they are:

That’s Jack’s anaconda.  Did you know that if you look at both width and length they’re the biggest snake in the world?  And that the mommies have up to SEVENTY live babies?  Thank goodness I’m not an anaconda, although right now it sure feels like there’s more than [...]

Tampa

January 19th, 2010 · 3 Comments · Adventures, Family, Friends, Girl Time

Maria and I just got home from spending the weekend in Tampa, FL.  Neither of us had ever been, so we were thrilled to be “obligated” to go for our newest Goddaughter’s baptism.
It was odd, going from winter to summer in just a few hours.  The climate was wonderful – warm and balmy and breezy.  [...]

About Last Night

January 9th, 2010 · No Comments · Family, Home, Parenting

About 1 a.m., Sam came down to my room, ran over to my side of the bed and told me he wanted to sleep with me.
“Do you need to go potty?” I asked.  “No!  I want to sleep in your bed!” he responded.
“Okay,” I told him, “but do you need to go potty first?”
“No.”
“Okay.  Get [...]

Worse

January 6th, 2010 · 4 Comments · Adventures, Family, Rougher days

Did I say something really stupid last time?  Like, “It could be worse?”
Well, it’s worse.
As I headed to the mall yesterday  morning (still in St. Louis) with my cabin fevered kids, the Honda service guy called.  “Blah, blah, blah, FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS, blah, blah THURSDAY.”
Somehow, I managed not to wreak my father-in-law’s car at hearing [...]

Stranded

January 4th, 2010 · 2 Comments · Adventures, Family, Holidays, Parenting, Rougher days

It could be worse… It could be worse… It could be worse…
It’s what I keep telling myself and everyone that asks.  But, it’s still frustrating.
We’re stranded.  Yes, it’s at my in-laws (who have food, heat and a washer and dryer), but we’re still stranded.  Unable to get home and back to the things we need [...]

Winter Sports

December 20th, 2009 · 7 Comments · Dads, Family, Parenting, Rougher days

We didn’t get the snow that our friends in the East did, but we did get several inches on Friday night.  Our biggest snowfall so far this season.
The kids, of course, were thrilled.  Jack, especially.  He spent several hours outside this weekend building a snow fort. (Pictures to come.)
Yesterday afternoon, when our youngest little darling [...]

Jingle Bells and Toy Soldiers

December 17th, 2009 · No Comments · Celebrations, Family, Holidays, Performances

This week both of The Little Boys had their Christmas programs at school.
Sam worked hard ringing and singing:

Introduced a song to the audience:

And sat on Santa’s lap:

And Luke was the best Toy Soldier the school has ever seen:

One more half-day of school and Christmas Vacation begins.
Heaven help me.

Birthday, Part 1

December 9th, 2009 · 3 Comments · Celebrations, Family

I can’t believe my little Looney Tunes is 5!
Over the weekend, to celebrate his birthday, we took a trip to the Children’s Museum.  Luke and Sam had been there recently on a field trip with school and Luke told me he wanted to go back for his birthday.  I was elated, as this meant I [...]
