This afternoon, during a commercial break for Sponge Bob Square Pants (it’s a slippery slope, eh Kristina?), I told my two big boys that during the next commercial break, they would need to go out and bring up the recycling and trash bins.
Immediately, Luke broke into angry tears and started shouting at me, “you broke my life!!!”
Hmmmmm. I broke his life? By asking him to do a quick chore durng a commercial break?
Before I could ask for clarification, he ran to the basement and slammed the door as he took off down the steps. I gave him a few minutes, keeping an ear to the TV, waiting for the commercial break. When it came, I called the boys up and reiterated that they needed to go get the bins from the curb and bring them up to the house.
Jack ran off to get started and Luke, dragging his feet, followed. When they returned, I asked Luke about his earlier comment. “I broke your life?”
“Yes,” he responded, downcast. “It means you broke my heart. Now I missed some of Sponge Bob.”
Heaven forbid!!!
