I’ve never had houseplants before. Well, just one. My mother-in-law gave it to me when Jack was born and despite all odds, I’ve managed to keep it alive.
Anyhow, when my friend Katey moved to D.C., I scored big. I got most of her houseplants, some outdoor plants and some indoor/outdoor plants. I’ve managed, so far, to keep everything alive except for one rose bush. I’m sure it was defective.
Now, however, I’m a little concerned. When it started getting cooler here, I remembered Katey telling me that I would need to bring the hibiscus inside. I kept forgetting about it and when I finally went to bring them in over the weekend (after a frost or two), they were looking pretty sad. And brown.
When the kids said they wanted to gather the
leaves and play in them, I didn’t think they meant in the house.
So… did I kill them? Are they dead? I’m hoping Katey will see this and tell me that they are, in fact, still alive but merely hibernating or something. It’s possible. If you look closely, there are still a couple of green leaves left on each tree. At least there were when I took the picture.
