Ahhhhhh….

Hear that?  That is the sound of just me and my new baby at home alone.  Just keys on the keyboard and a few squeaks coming from the bassinet. It won’t last long, and that’s okay.  But, for now it’s very, very nice.

I thought I’d take this opportunity to update you on the new baby and how things went.  I’m sure you’ve all been hanging on the edges of your seats, dying to know, constantly wondering about us.

Ha.

My parents arrived on Easter afternoon, ready to take charge should I go into labor.  It was the start of Spring Break for the kids.

My folks got settled in.  I was READY.  My baby, however, wasn’t.  We made it through the week, got out a little, had some fun and then wrapped it all up with a Sunday evening spaghetti dinner.  With the dishes finished, children bathed and three of them down with one left to go, my water broke.  (Same shit Jack pulled on me almost 8 years ago.)  I really wasn’t looking forward to showing up at the hospital looking like I’d just waded through a swamp, but hey.  What can you do?  At least he was on his way out of my womb and into the world.

When you’re having a c-section, things at the hospital tend to move a little faster once you’re in labor.  Not a lot of waiting around.  The nurses got me ready, got the room ready, got the doc, outfitted Dan and then we were off to the OR about 45 minutes after we’d arrived.  This was my first time giving birth at a teaching hospital and there were THOUSANDS of people in various stages of medical career surrounding us.  A little different than the one doc and two nurses when I had Jack.

Things went smoothly and Andrew Patrick was born at 10:42 p.m. on April 11, 2010.  He shares a birthday with my (big) little brother, Jeff.  Almost shared it with my other brother Greg, but had the decency not to wait another hour and 18 minutes.  Sorry, Greg.  Maybe next time.  (cue: hysterical laughter).

My friend collected the details (thanks, Erin!!!) and passed them on to Sister, who put Andrew’s stats on the marquee outside of school.  The kids were absolutely thrilled to be able to tell everyone about their newest brother, here at last.

Is that a yawn or a scream? Since he’s a Hemmersmeier, I’m going with scream! Glad to hear all went well. Thanks for the pictures.
