The comforts of home…
A comfy bed. TV to watch. A computer to surf on. A potty 10 feet away – just in case.
These things may seem pretty basic, but when you compare where I’m sitting to where Dan is lying… I’ve definitely got the better deal.
At Jack’s insistence, Dan agreed to “camp out” in the backyard tonight. We started off with a poor man’s s’more party (using the Weber grill, as we don’t have a firepit). Once the s’mores were finished (30 seconds after they were assembled), the little boys were put to bed and Maria and Jack got ready for camping. (Which basically consisted of dragging to the tent every pillow, blanket and stuffed animal they could find. Dan, dragging his feet, finally joined them.
Fast forward a few minutes…
Maria just came it. “I need a pillow for Dad and I’m coming in,” she said. “It’s too buggy out there.”
After she delivered Dad’s pillow, I helped her get ready for bed and when I was tucking her in she told me that a tent, “is not a place for girls.” “Did Dad tell you that?” I asked her. “No. But it’s not, is it, Mommy?”
“Ummmm…. well….” was about the best I could do for an answer.

I loved camping when I was her age. So I had no problems agreeing to go about a month ago. That was the dumbest idea I’ve had in a while. 6 months pregnant sleeping in a tent, in the same sleeping bag as my two year old because he’s too cold and scared to sleep in his own. Maria definetly has the right idea!
