A Chat With My Sister

March 4th, 2009 · 2 Comments · Parenting

My sister and I talked on the phone late this afternoon.  We talk most days, as I think it’s a release for both of us.  And, well, we’re about the only people we can talk to when the kids are conscious, as we understand all about the background noise.

Anyhow, as we talked, my kids, as usual, wreaked havoc.  This time it was in my bedroom.  When I walked past the open door, they were bouncing around on my bed and throwing pillows around while watching TV.  “Why,” I asked my sister, “do my kids think my room is an amusement park?”  We both lamented the fact that there was nothing sacred in our homes, and then moved on to other topics.

A few minutes later, Maria came into the kitchen to get herself some water.  She was followed by a bouncing, NAKED little boy.  “Oh, did you go pee pee?” I asked Sam, assuming (stupidly) that that would be the only reason for his lack of clothing.

“No,” Maria answered for him.  “He got like that to jump on the bed.”

As my sister giggled on her end of the phone, I asked Maria, “He got NAKED to JUMP on MY bed?!?”

“We all did,” she said matter-of-factly.  “But Lukie said we better put our clothes back on before Mom saw us.  So we did.  Except for Sam.”

My sister was still laughing when we hung up the phone a few minutes later.

I guess “changing the sheets” just got added to my To-Do List.

At least you’ll have a new washing machine to wash the sheets in! :)
