In anticipation of Halloween, a few weeks ago Dan bought a pumpkin and set it out on our little front stoop. I figured over the following week or so we’d buy a few more and then a few days before Halloween we’d have a carving party with the kids. Carving pumpkins was always a big [...]

Last night, Dan took the three bigger kids with him for a run after dinner. (Two in the stroller, one on his bike.) While he was gone, I bathed Sam and then started my preparations for painting the kitchen ceiling (which, by the way, sucks).
When the running party returned, we got the other kids bathed, [...]

Snow

It’s October 27th. And it’s snowing here in Chicago.
My parents, lucky dogs, missed the snow by minutes. They’re bound for the warmth of Austin.
The kids are doing a happy dance, but I’m wondering what we’ve gotten ourselves into.
Have I mentioned that our furnace isn’t working?

Landscape For Me

Okay. So sometimes I jump into a project and then find myself at a loss.
When we bought this house, Dan and I agreed that the front bushes/shrubs/whatever needed to come out. They looked terrible and were falling apart. Without luck, the Brilliant Previous Homeowners tried to hold up the splitting trunks with cinder blocks. Go [...]

Sun!
It’s hasn’t rained here for the last day or two, but it does seem to rain quite a bit more here than in Tennessee. So, I’ve been on the hunt for some rain jackets and boots.
Aunt Caroline to the rescue! She found these adorable jackets and boots and promptly mailed them to us. Now we’re [...]

To put over my head.
We have a lovely new fence. An absolute necessity with kids and a dog. Especially a dog that runs off and kids that give her every opportunity to do so. In just a month without a fence, I thought I’d go crazy. I can’t tell you how many times I had [...]

Whoohoo!

No, the kitchen isn’t finished. And, we didn’t win the lottery. And, I’m not whoopin’ it up because my in-laws just left. (I like my in-laws).
The “whoohooo” is because you can now order Uppercase Living expressions online via my website! Check it out at http://fourinarow.uppercaseliving.net. I’ve had a web presence for a few months, but [...]

Maybe I should have left Johnny Nash singing on my blog. Maybe a little more positive thinking and a light tune would improve the mood around here.
The kitchen construction has been underway now for a week. The tiled and carpeted floors have been ripped up… only to find too much damage underneath to save the [...]

Siblings Not Required
October 7th, 2008 · 2 Comments · Family, Parenting
Oftentimes, when one of our children chooses to display a “best of” series of his or her tantrum abilities, Dan will suggest that it’s possible we have too many children. My standard response is, “even if we only had one, he/she, would still be doing this.”
Siblings tend to come into play more often, I think, [...]
