Clogging - Not the Dance

September 30th, 2008 · 2 Comments · Dirt, Home

Is it a sign of cheap carpet when the vacuum clogs with carpet fibers each time you use it?  I know it’s not my vacuum cleaner that’s at fault.  I’ve had it for 8 or 10 years and I love it.  Works great.  Except when it’s clogged (which never happened previous to… Casa Amarilla!)
I can’t [...]

Difference of Opinion

September 28th, 2008 · 6 Comments · Conversations

Are you accomplished?  On your way to being accomplished?  Accomplished in some things but not others?  How about your friends?  Your family members?  Do you consider them accomplished?
Dan and I started a “discussion” last night in front of the fire.  (What fire?  You ask, since we have not a fireplace in Casa Amarilla.  To answer [...]

Little Boys

You gotta love them…
This morning, Luke and Sam were the first ones up (as usual).  They came downstairs, ran into the kitchen and Luke informed me that he’d brought his clothes and Sam’s clothes downstairs.  That way, Luke explained, I could help them get dressed without having to go upstairs!  Lukie even thought to bring [...]

Casa in brief

September 24th, 2008 · 1 Comment · Family, Home, Parenting

Didja miss me?
I just got my internet connection back after being down for several days.  Nice.  Here’s a quick rundown of what’s been happening at Casa Amarilla:

We discovered a new leak.  At the same time this weekend, Dan had to “see a man about a job” and I needed to shower, so he went to [...]

The Orkin (Wo)man

September 18th, 2008 · 4 Comments · Animals, Home, Parenting

Apparently I really did piss someone off.  And, going to daily mass this morning with my 2-year-old netted me no points.  Maybe because said 2-year-old tried preaching over the priest.
After Sam and I returned from church, I set about vacuuming all the creepy spots in the house.  You know, all the tiny corners and basement [...]

The Dentist

September 17th, 2008 · 3 Comments · Family, Parenting, Rougher days

I’m sure not many people are foolish enough to bring all four of their small children to the dentist’s office at the same time.  Especially when only two of those four were being worked on.  But, what’s a mom to do?  Life is a little different here than it was in Small Town, TN.  Dan [...]

HandyDan

We are moving right along.  Dan kicked butt this weekend with his home improvement honey-do’s.  He replaced the motor in the upstairs bathroom exhaust fan and cleaned it up - looks and works like new!
He did this spectacular job repairing the downstairs bathtub.
He replaced one of two hall lights upstairs.
And, he fixed a couple of [...]

More bathroom repairs

September 14th, 2008 · 1 Comment · Home, Projects, Rougher days

Not to the upstairs bathroom, mind you.  Ours.  The first floor bathroom.  This is the bathroom that is tiny and pretty ugly and needs serious updating.  This is also the bathroom we’ve all been relying on while the upstairs toilet was replaced and while we find a solution to the rusted out bathtub (which I [...]

Guilt

September 12th, 2008 · 1 Comment · Parenting

Oh, the guilt!
On Monday, I was late picking Maria up from school.  Not very late, mind you.  About 5 minutes late.  But, when you’re late, they take your child to the office until you deign to show up.
I was actually at the school early… so early, in fact, the gate to the parking lot was [...]
