Whiskey

Okay, so my two favorite shirts are my “Mommy needs a beer” t-shirt and my new “Mommy Juice” t-shirt with a picture of a wine glass. (Do my sisters know me or what?)
I know you’ll call me before calling DFS so you can ask where they came from and get one or both for [...]

Questions

December 28th, 2007 · 1 Comment · Parenting

Inquiring minds (i.e. Jack) want to know:
“Why is Z the last letter?”
“Does space end?  Is there an edge?”
“Who took care of the very first baby?”
It amazes me what he wants to know about.  Of course, some things need creative answers, like the first one.  What would your response be?

The Floods of ‘o7

December 26th, 2007 · 1 Comment · Family, Holidays, Parenting

Christmas morning brought a flood of presents. The kids rushed into the living room and squealed with excitement. It’s so fun to watch the face of a young child (or four) on Christmas morning. They’re so… awed.
Unwrapping brought yet another flood… this one of happiness and excitement over the gifts we all [...]

Christmas Mass

December 24th, 2007 · 4 Comments · Parenting

So. I must admit that I was totally pissed off slightly disappointed when our priest announced the Christmas mass schedule on Sunday. It went like this:
Christmas Eve:
4:30 “Family Mass”
8 p.m. Spanish Mass
Midnight Mass with music beginning at 11 p.m.
Christmas Day:
10 a.m. Mass
SAY WHAT?!? What happened to the 8 a.m. mass [...]

Untrimming

December 23rd, 2007 · No Comments · Family, Holidays

Ever since we trimmed the tree, Sam has been untrimming the tree.
Whenever he has occasion to visit the family room, he wanders over to the tree and browses for a while.  Then he carefully chooses an ornament.  He takes it from the tree and walks around with it.  Plays with it.  Sometimes brings it to [...]

The Big Stick

December 20th, 2007 · 3 Comments · Family, Parenting, Rougher days

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought I asked you people to say a prayer for me.  Either you didn’t, or you need to get right with The Big Guy, because he didn’t listen to you.
While my friend Amanda was shopping in Nashville with the stars, I was in the waiting room at the [...]

Ramblings

December 18th, 2007 · 3 Comments · Family

So I’m sitting here at my computer, typing away and next to my elbow is a toilet bowl brush.  Sam brought it over and put it there.  I’ve got strep (which means all the kids need to be checked and/or medicated - YAY!) and I feel too crappy to chase Sam down and keep him [...]

‘Tis the Season

December 15th, 2007 · 1 Comment · Parenting

Well, we’ve had our tree now for a couple of weeks (we always get a real one). I put the lights on it immediately. Except for those it’s been bare. Jack, in particular, has been asking to decorate it and I was able to hold off.. until today. (Knock it off with [...]

Sam the Brave

December 14th, 2007 · 2 Comments · Parenting

Walking has obviously turned Sam into The Bravest Child on the Planet.
Sam’s only my fourth child, but I’m pretty sure the usual progression is cruising, taking a few steps, toddling, walking, running, etc. Sam chose to buck the system and went from not walking to walking, running and climbing within days. Of course, [...]

Blankie Thief

December 13th, 2007 · 1 Comment · Animals, Family, Parenting

Luke: Waaaaaaaaaaaa! (Etc., etc.) I can’t find my blankie!
Me: Well, where do you think it is?
Luke: I think it got eaten up.
Me: [Trying not to laugh because this is a new one...] Really? Eaten up? By who?
Luke: Cheerio.
Now, Cheerio (our yellow lab) does eat a [...]
